Happy New Year! The gang is kicking off 2024 with special guest Josh from The Evil Deaths podcast. We cover a Jaws rip-off for no particular reason. Sadly Dave was out of town but the whole gang will be joining Josh on his podcast later this month covering Blood Hook.
Dave was dearly missed and you can tell we needed him since we can’t even figure out how to open a beer correctly. We NEED you Dave. No more PTO for you.
Pete hit the jackpot and nailed the Six Minute Synopsis at EXACTLY six minutes. A GBBMN first! Kathleen still calls him a cheater.
Happy Holiday to one and all. The GBBMN crew had such a good time recording the Santa Charlie skit that we decided to release the unedited version as a gift to you. We goof on Charlie and Nate from Give Me Back My Action and Horror Movies podcast but it all in good fun. We love you guys and I expect retaliation in the near future.
Pete was truly excited to see a Hallmark holiday film starring GBBMN’s patron saint Bruce Campbell. I mean, how bad can it be? It’s got Bruce! Oh how terribly wrong he was. The gang desperately tries to avoid talking about this snooze-fest by remembering all the good movies we’ve watched in the past, like The Swarm for instance.
Pete struggles through explaining what is a Berliner Weiss style beer. He’s supposed to be the beer expert, right. Someone needs to take away his membeership card.
Friends, we’ve seen some bad movies in the past but this one may have exceeded The Swarm as the most reviled film we’ve ever covered. Just listen to the show and please, for the love of Bruce Campbell, never watch this pile of garbage. Dave’s idea for Hallmark Presents: A Christmas Piano has more promise.
This movie nearly broke the case and we’re happy it’s in the rearview window. You have my word that we will do better next year. That said, we’re going to hit the ground running in 2024. We’re so excited to bring more silliness to your ears.
Continuing his weird obsession with 1980s fantasy movies, Dave subjected the cast to Legend (1985), starring Tom Cruise, Mia Sara, and Tim Curry as Darkness.
The cast discuss style over substance, whether the movies we were permitted to watch as children messed us up as adults, and the risks of watching director’s cuts for a podcast about bad movies. We also spend a disproportionate amount of time discussing Tim Curry’s terrifying yet intensely, uncomfortably sexy performance.
It’s Troy’s Birthday! To “celebrate” this momentous occasion, he has exposed all our brains to Walter Hill’s 1984 Rock & Roll Fable flop, Streets of Fire.
Grease up your hair and slap on some bracers as we travel to another place and another time. A time where everyone speaks tough guy and where motorcycles are one tiny spark away from erupting into a ball of fire. A time where Troy can’t shut up about Jim Steinman music, and how much he loves it. A time of weird ass “whoosh-y” transitions between scenes.
Troy brings us something different for his birthday brews, as one of those beers is no beer at all! He dares to bring a CIDER to a BEER podcast. Pantywaist.
For our “Podcast Birthday Month”, we watch Attack of the Mushroom People, featuring the least attacking mushroom people you’ve ever seen. Honestly, this movie should have been called “Stranded on an Island with the Mushroom Pacifists”. Or, as Kathleen suggested, “The Island of Mushrooms and Nothing Actually Happens”.
Listen as Dave and Pete try to convince Kathleen and Troy that this is actually a good movie!
Listen to Dave try to make fungus puns in the background, which are totally ignored!
Charlie and Nate from Give Me Back My Action and Horror Movies join us. Pete and Troy have been moonlighting over on their podcast and we finally got them on our show. Six podcast hosts = chaos. Enjoy.
We got a fun Millie report from Kathleen. She’s always good for a great laugh.
I need everyone to find your best Twister movie memes and start sending them to Troy. It’s a trigger for him and since I doubt he will read this it’ll be a great joke. Troy HATES Twister and about 20 minutes into the recording he bonks his computer when Dave mention the film causing Troy’s recording to stop. We got it back up and running but there’s a hard cut.
Nate has been described as having boarder collie energy. You be the judge.
Featured beer: I have to give Charlie credit for coining the phrase, “Not all the movies are bad and not every beer is good.” This month is a great example of how true a statement can be. Nate hated one of my most favorite beers ever which just proves “you like what you like” and I’m not here to tell you that you’re wrong.
It’s July and we dive into an amazing independent film written and directed by Pierce Berolzheimer; CRABS! This is a huge recommend so go buy yourself a copy.
This episode descended into madness rather quickly at the end. Clearly it’s the beer’s fault.
Super Fan Jen was joining us from out of town and off mic, except when she wanted to participate which the mic never really caught well enough to hear her comments. Thanks, Jen, for making this one of the most difficult episodes to edit. You’re on the list.
This month, GBBMN swapped movies with Steven and Leo over at Spoils of Horror podcast. Kathleen was terrified that I had selected something for SoH to watch and the return movie was revenge for giving them such a stinker. Not so. It was an even exchange with neither of us having seen the selection.
Pete starts the night out with a Six Minute Synopsis by getting almost everyone’s name incorrect. He still gets it done in the time allotted but is that really a victory?
Kathleen and Troy teamed up and came up with an amazing way to fix the film. Let us know what you think.
Snorting tequila is not a recommended way to get your drink on.
