EP101 – The Happening (2008)

What is happening? - Marky Mark from The Happening (2008)

Troy tests the friendship of the entire crew as he brings the movie that has confounded him for years to the podcast. M. Night Shyamalan’s 2008 horror, The Happening.

Listen to Pete, Troy, Dave and Kathleen struggle to find the meaning in a meaningless film. Wild speculations will be floated. Theories will be offered. Nothing will help to explain this film. God Help Us All.

FULL-KEG EPISODE 100 – Conan versus Conan

This is what happens when you only release one episode a month, it takes 8 years to hit 100 episodes. No complaints on our side, we give you what we got and we’ve done it longer than most. Trying to remember shit that’s happened over the last eight years is a challenge, especially to Pete, who is a big dummy on the best of days. Please forgive all the memory gaps if we said something wrong or just plain forogt. We love all of you and humble ask for your forgiveness.

We normally like to keep episodes to 90ish minutes but with the 8 year / 100 episodes celebration, we knew it was going to be a big one. Breaking it up into two episodes felt like serving you only half a beer and that just didn’t sit right with the alcoholics in the room. Don’t miss the chaotic out takes at the end.

One of the questions that we were asked was what kind of equipment we use. This is what we use today and we love the ability of having 4 separate tracks. We were able to get everything off Amazon minus Mic stands and XLR cables which I was able to pick up at a used music store for way less than buying new.
Recorder: Zoom PodTrak P4
Microphones: Behringer XM8500
Go back to episode 64 if you want to understand just why the hell we keep yelling “FOR NANA!” Miss you, Jeff.

EP099 – Fantastic Four (1994)

Episode 99 is a doozie. Some might call it a wet fart…well…everyone but Pete calls it a wet fart. To celebrate the new Fantastic Four movie we dive into the unreleased 1994 version made by the great Roger Corman. Why was it unreleased? Why did we watch it? Why is Pete still allowed to pick movies? All these questions and more may or may not be answered in this episode.

Pat Daily is sadly no longer with us but he lives on in our memories. Hazy alcohol fueled Put-in-Bay memories but memories still the same. This is the song we reference every show when Pete get’s it right. Just How Drunk are we Gonna Get?

We continually reference Doomed: The Untold Story of Roger Corman’s The Fantastic Four and the entire cast is in agreement that this documentary is way more entertaining than the film.

EP098 – King Solomon’s Mines – (1985)

GBBMN joins forces with Give Me Back My Action and Horror Movies for THE MONTH OF ACTION and Pete picked a movie that he will regret for years to come. King Solomon’s Mines was admittedly a childhood favorite but through adult eyes is one of the most stomach turning racist and misogynistic we have ever covered on this show. Boy do we suffer for Pete’s decision.

EP096 – The Bat Woman (1968)

No, we aren’t going back to themed months, Pete’s had this one queued up for for a while and figured it was time. Bat Woman is as cheesy as the late 60s gets and if you can forgive it for it’s flaws you’re in for a good time.

Bear witness to Pete’s hatred of this film

Listen to us gush on and on about the two delicious farmhouse beers that we drank.

Find out why The Son in Law is actually a Hallmark movie, despite Kathleen’s objections!

All coming to you on this day, 4/20. For no reason at all!

EP094 – Commando (1985)

Commando 1985

In a controversial move, for his birthday month Dave selected the much beloved action classic Commando (1985), starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rae Dawn Chong, and Alyssa Milano.

When we choose popular, well-liked movies someone always says “hey, I love that one!” or “hey screw you, that’s a good movie!” or “IF YOU REVIEW THAT MOVIE I’LL KILL YOU!” etc.

Of course, this leads us to our our most most frequently asked question: what do we at Good Beer Bad Movie night consider a “bad” movie? Well we’re not quite ready to answer that yet, but I can tell you one thing for certain: bad or not, we often actually quite like the movies we review. Is Commando among them? Listen and find out!

Beers of the month

As always, Dave chose some hilariously high-ABV beers, making for a rather spirited discussion.

3 Floyds Cimmerian Sabertooth Berzerker

ABV: 9% (woohoo!)

  • ABV: 12.2% (this one did us in)

EP092 – Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008)

Repo! The Genetic Opera Poster

Get ready for a toe-tapping musical extravaganza!
No. Not Repo The Genetic Opera. But maybe you could still catch Wicked in the theater?

The cast subject themselves to the twisted Rock Opera Repo! The Genetic Opera, and much fun was had. Mostly by Pete. The rest of us kind of suffered.

Though, I did get to learn about Anthony Head starring in a series of coffee commercials from when I was a kid, which I was unaware of. And I kind of enjoyed that?

I also learned WAY more about the evolution of skis than I ever thought I would know.

Wow. It seems that I learned a lot this episode. Not least of which, was that the true treasures in life are the friends that you meet along the way.

Unless they make you watch Hot Frosty. In which case, SCREW those guys. They are NOT your friends!

EP091 – Hot Frosty (2024)

After this “Hallmark” movie the cast might be done with these type of Holiday films for a looooong time, however we still had a fun conversation. Especially since Kathleen fired Dave for excessive penis jokes. He’s still sitting in the corner for his transgressions.
